Get The Most Out Of Your Voice

Want To Be A Better Singer? Improve Your Performing

Many singers gets more and more worried about the quality of their singing voice the better they get. They often complain that their range is too limited and their quality is too low saying that they’ll never be accepted as a good singer. It’s a human trait to strive for perfection and to compare ourselves to others, and when the singer feels like they are not at the level they want to be at, they often get disheartened. At times like these it actually helps more if you don’t focus on improving your singing voice and instead improve on the other aspects that make a great performer.

I know that this may sound counter intuitive but if you think about a lot of pop, rock and country stars they are not renowned for having an excellent perfect-pitch singing voice, they’re known for being great performers. In fact if you take artists such as Bob Dillon and Johnny Cash, they’re well known for not having perfect singing voices however they are a couple of the most influential artists in music and are loved by millions around the world.

So you see, developing a pitch perfect voice isn’t as important as developing good performing skills. That’s not to say you shouldn’t strive for a great singing voice, only that too many people place too much importance on the clarity and quality of their voice.

Let’s look at some ways then that you can improve your performing skills to become a better singer.

Develop Your Own Voice

Firstly, develop your own singing voice. Many singers either consciously or subconsciously tried to copy the style and sound of their favorite singers. Whilst this is okay while still learning. If you want to be a great performance artist you’re going to have to develop your own voice. It may seem difficult at first but if you concentrate on just singing naturally been in time you’ll find your voice.

Be A Personality

You should also work on creating a personality which is attractive to an audience and demands their attention and respect. In fact almost everyone would rather watch a singer with a weaker voice yet shining charisma, and a strong singer who’s boring to watch.

Be A Storyteller

Too many singers overlook the fact that singing is communication. In its simplest form it is storytelling and to be a good singer you have to be able to convey feelings and emotions openly and honestly. If your outgoing and you can make the audience relates to what you’re singing then you have the most important elements of pop, rock, and country singers.

Be Brave

Be brave with your singing. Appreciate that you’re always going to be judged and there are going to be people who will never like anything you do. But don’t let that put you off. Go do some karaoke bars if you feel you need to build your confidence as in that kind of environments bad singing is almost encouraged!
